Level
Level Transmitters
Continuous level measurement: magnetostrictive, radar, ultrasonic, submersible and more.
Level transmitters give a continuous level signal (4-20 mA, HART or digital) for inventory, control and alarms on tanks, vessels, sumps and silos. The right technology depends mainly on what is in the vessel and what is above it.
Which technology for which job
- Magnetostrictive (ABB LMT100 and LMT200): very high accuracy (0.01% of full scale) for total and interface level, mounted in the vessel or outside a magnetic level gauge. A good choice for separators and inventory.
- Guided wave radar (ABB LWT300): liquids and interfaces, largely unaffected by changes in density, up to 204 °C and 207 bar. The MagWave combines it with a local float indicator.
- Non-contact ultrasonic (ABB LST200): open tanks, wells and channels in water and wastewater.
- Laser (ABB LLT100): solids and liquids in silos and tall vessels.
- Submersible hydrostatic (SOR 510 and 815LT): deep sumps, wells and lift stations. The sensor sits at the bottom and measures the height of liquid above it.
- Differential pressure (SOR 800 and 1800 Series): level in closed, pressurised vessels from the pressure difference between the bottom and the top.
What to tell us
- The measuring range and the vessel’s shape and size
- The liquid or solid, its density, and any interface, foam or vapour layer
- Operating pressure and temperature
- Process connection, output and display
- Area classification and approvals
Each transmitter is built to order to these details. See level transmitters placed on storage tanks and loading, distillation columns, lift stations and silos and powder handling.
